Dr. Ramkumar & Ms Renu Gulati  
Heads of the Dept. for Ayurvedic Therapies

 

DR. RAMKUMAR hails from a traditional Ayurveda family. Since completing his formal Ayurveda education in 1991 from the Ayurveda College, Coimbatore, he has continuously been occupied in education and strengthening Ayurveda, the primary health tradition in India. He is Founder-Director of Punarnava Ayurveda, an institute committed to Authentic Ayurveda for Universal Well-Being, with the primary objective of “creation and sustenance of health for the global community in a cost-effective manner through Ayurveda and other traditional medical knowledge systems”.

 

From 1994 to 2003, he was Director of the Ayurvedic Trust in Coimbatore, India, a 100–bed hospital, giving treatment based on pure Ayurveda. During this period, the hospital was acknowledged and recognized as one of the five best Ayurveda hospitals in India.  As Executive Director of Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (AVP), a 60 year old authentic Ayurveda institute based in South India and Member of the Ayushman Ayurvedic Trust,
 
Dr. Ramkumar was specifically involved in: 
 
  1. Receipt of  Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification from the government of India for AVPs three manufacturing units which produce in excess of 400 Ayurveda medicinal formulations for use in India and other countries;
  2. Creation of a network of Ayurveda centers to increase Ayurveda awareness and promoting good health in a number of countries:  In India with the Taj group of hotels, the Sterling group, and the Mahindra group; in Malaysia at Petaling Jaya;  and in the Sultanate of Oman, and
  3. Creation and sustenance of a 4-year long program titled “Tatwaprakashini” based on the gurukula model specifically for overseas undergraduate students of Ayurveda.

Dr. Ramkumar has spoken extensively by giving presentations and holding workshops on Ayurveda in the Americas, Africa, Europe and South-East Asia.

 

Ms RENU GULATI was born in the UK and currently lives in Rishikesh. She graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1995 with an MA Hons majoring in Sanskrit and Indian Philosophy. She began her formal study of Ayurveda in 2000 at the College of Ayurveda in the UK. Her desire to go more deeply into the subject led her to the Gujarat Ayurveda University where she studied for one year. She then went on to receive in depth practical training in Ayurveda and traditional Ayurveda therapies from the Arsha Yoga Vidya Peetam Trust, Coimbatore. Renu completed her PGDip in Ayurvedic Medicine in 2006 at the Middlesex University in London and is currently conducting research into Ayurveda for her MSc in Ayurvedic Medicine. Since 2004, Renu has been working with patients, giving lifestyle advice and Ayurveda therapies. Renu has also been instructing international students on a one-to-one basis in the principles and practices of Ayurveda treatment.

  

She is also a qualified yoga teacher, having completed the Sivanananda Yoga Teachers Training course in Kerala in December 2003 and the Yoga Instructors Course with Vivekananda Kendra University in Bangalore in June 2003. Renu also works as an event manager, organizing International Ayurveda and Yoga events in India.
