Aim
To create expert Yoga masters who will become leaders in their field and be able to teach Yoga in a safe, compassionate, efficient and knowledgeable manner.
Eligibility Criteria
Before your arrival at ASI, you need to submit full payment, 5 book reports, a signed Ethical Guidelines forms, and a signed Teacher Certification Agreement. The pre-prep is designed to prepare advancing students with the content so they able engage in in-depth discussions on an advanced level. Think of this as a Masters level academic programme where students should do a lot of self-study and pre-prep as part of their discipline.
Book reports
5 book reports are due with your final payment. The format should be 1000 words typed in Arial or Times New Roman font, 12 point, double spaced, not bolded, on plain white A4 paper
The books are available at many bookstores and online.
Read each of the books and write one report for each book choose one of these report format options:
- overview of the book (or)
- summary of one chapter (or)
- elaboration on one point
The books are: Hathayogapradipika by the Bihar School of Yoga, Yoga Mala by Pattabi Jois, Yoga and Ayurveda (David Frawley), Conversations with Arjuna (by Paramhans Yogananda), Mantras and Meditation (Swami Vishnu-Devananda), and The Heart of Yoga (Desikechar). There are two philosophy books: Conversations with Arjuna and Heart of Yoga. You can choose one of these as the former focuses on yoga in the context of Bhagavad Gita and the latter on Patanjali Yoga Sutras.
Part of being a well-versed yoga teacher requires a lot of self-study and in-depth analysis of content. This will be exemplified in the student reports submitted and will count strongly toward the selection process. In the reports, students should incorporate aspects of their own experience and teachings
